I teach yoga in Abergavenny on Monday and Wednesday evenings:

Llanfoist Village Hall on Mondays

- 5.30pm - 6.30pm Beginners and Gentle

- 7pm -8.30pm Improvers/Intermediate

St Michael's Centre, Pen Y Pound on Wednesdays

- 6pm - 7pm Beginners and Gentle

- 7.30pm.- 9pm Intermediate

Both halls and warm and modern, with plentiful car parking and space for bikes.

The classes contain a mix of stretching exercises, traditional yoga postures (asanas), flowing movements, breathing exercises (pranayama), relaxation, chanting and meditation.  We also practice some restorative and yin yoga.

I always give modifications and different levels, so that everyone can find the right level of challenge.

This holistic approach to yoga provides many benefits – physical, emotional and spiritual. My hope is that everyone who comes to yoga finds a safe space where they fully inhabit their own bodies and unravel all the pressures and tensions created by modern living

Most people first feel the benefits of yoga through mindful movements of the body and notice that they are getting stronger or more flexible.  However, many soon discover that they feel calmer and more able to cope with stressful situations.  Mindful self-observation leads to increased self-awareness and ability to break out of limiting habits.

The end goal is not to touch your toes or stand on your head, although that can happen!  Through yoga we aim to observe our own bodies, minds, thoughts and energy, and witness all that goes on without becoming enmeshed in it.

If you feel ready to try some yoga, you do need to pre-book, to avoid over-crowding in the class.  Smaller class sizes mean that everyone gets personal attention.

Please bring a yoga mat and a blanket.  You should wear comfortable clothes that you can move comfortably in.  Try not to eat a heavy meal before yoga!

You don’t need to be flexible or fit to do yoga, and the postures can be modified to suit many health conditions or physical limitations.  Yoga is not competitive – it all about your inner development.

We often see pictures of skinny, white, super-flexible women doing yoga on Instagram, which is unfortunate because yoga is for everyone.  I particularly welcome men, people of all ages, larger people, LGBT+ people, people from different ethnic backgrounds, people from all social backgrounds, and anyone who thinks that yoga is not for people like them!  I have worked with Stonewall and Race Equality Wales to understand better how to be a good ally. If there is anything that would help you feel comfortable and participate (e.g. preferred pronouns, adjustments for impairments, neurodiverse friendly-instructions) please let me know.

The cost of a half-term of classes is based on each class costing £8 e.g. £56 for a block of 7 classes.  Drop in sessions cost £12 per class and must be pre-booked.
